The Birth Plan

Birth Plan for Mamie Hall
Due Date: 09/21/2010

I want for my labor & delivery to be a natural process.
  • My support people are my husband and doula, I would like them to be present during labor and delivery.
  • I would like for labor to begin spontaneously.
  • I do not wish to have continuous fetal monitoring unless it is required by the condition of my daughter.
  • I would like to labor in a quiet room with dim lights.
  • I wish to be able to move around and change position at will throughout labor.
  • I would like a room with a bath tub in which to labor.
  • I would like to avoid an IV and be able to have fluids by mouth throughout the first stage of labor.
  • Even if I am fully dilated, and assuming my daughter is not in distress, I would like to try to wait until I feel the urge to push before beginning the pushing phase.

I want to limit medical intervention.
  • If any intervention is suggested, I would like time to discuss it with my doula and husband before it is administered.
  • I would prefer to keep the number of vaginal exams to a minimum.
  • I do not want any kind of anesthesia offered to me during labor, though I would like it available if I specifically request it.
  • I would like my husband present at all times if my daughter requires a Cesarean delivery.

I want for my daughter to remain with us as much as possible.
  • If my daughter is not in distress, I would like to have my daughter placed on my stomach/chest immediately after delivery.
  • I would like for my husband to cut the cord after it stops pulsing.
  • I would like to have my daughter examined and bathed in my arms.
  • I would like to try to nurse my daughter as soon as possible after her birth.
  • I would like to be asked before any procedure is performed or anything is administered to my daughter.
  • Unless medically necessary, I do not wish to have any bottles given to my daughter (including glucose water or plain water).
  • I do not want my daughter to be given a pacifier.
